Performance Information

Please read all of the information carefully.

Ensembles

Competing ensembles must consist only of students who attend the school represented.

All ensembles participating in the festival are required to join Jazz at Lincoln Center's Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band Program

All ensembles will be required to perform three selections. One selection must be a swing tune, one a ballad, and one director's choice from any genre. One of these three compositions, whether swing, ballad, Latin, etc., must be from Jazz at Lincoln Center's Essentially Ellington Series.

The JALC clinicians for this year are still being determined.

Your performance experience will include:

  • a 30-minute warm-up before your performance
  • a 30-minute adjudicated performance(includes setup and takedown)
  • a 30-minute post-performance clinic with one of our adjudicators
  • written and recorded comments from all the judges
  • a recording of your performance

Bands can also register up to two combos from their school to perform and be adjudicated for $25 per combo. This will include:

  • a 15-minute performance slot per combo
  • a 15-minute live adjudication/clinic immediately following their performance

Please allow yourself enough time to come to the registration check-in desk located in the 2nd floor lobby of the BYU Music Building (east side) to complete your adjudication forms upon arrival.
